‘’Mongor" is the nineteenth episode of ThunderCats (original series).
Premise[]
Wilykit and Wilykat let their curiosity get the better of them and accidentally end up releasing the goat demon, Mongor, who proves to be one of the toughest opponents that the ThunderCats have faced so far.
Summary[]
Inside the Black Pyramid, Mumm-Ra's cauldron is showing him a vision of Mongor, a creature who grows stronger by feeding on fear. The image shows the goat demon creating raging fires with his Scythe. Mumm-Ra, who has been searching for Mongor's prison for centuries albeit unsuccessfully, is certain that once released, Mongor will succeed in defeating the ThunderCats.
At Cats Lair, Tygra and Cheetara are puzzled by sudden mysterious earthquakes and a strange force field which blocks their scanners. Out in the ThunderTank, Lion-O, Panthro, and Snarf are experiencing the same technical problems with their equipment. They head back to the lair by which time the disturbances had stopped. Panthro declares everything to be normal but Tygra points out that each time the phenomenon occurs, it gets stronger.
At that point, Wilykit and Wilykat admit that they are somehow responsible for all these strange disturbances. They go on to explain that earlier that day, they came across an ancient ruined temple and decided to explore it further. Inside, they found a hexagonal stone slab with strange symbols carved on it. Thinking that there might be a tomb hidden underneath it, they raised the slab and ended up releasing a fearsome goat-like creature.
The adult ThunderCats are extremely annoyed at the ThunderKittens and start berating them for their irresponsible and reckless behavior. Snarf intervenes and tries to explain that the ThunderKittens are only kids and yelling at them isn't the right way to handle the situation. As all the adult ThunderCats are listening to Snarf, Wilykit and Wilykat sneak out of the lair in their spaceboards. Noticing that they are gone and concerned for their safety, the ThunderCats decide to split up and go searching for them.
As Tygra is passing through a forest, he encounters Mongor. The two battle but Mongor ties Tygra up using his own Bolo whip. Next Mongor seeks out Cheetara and ensnares her in a net. Finally, Mongor confronts Panthro and succeeds in using his own shoulder spikes to bind him and anchor him to the ground. Meanwhile, Wilykit and Wilykat return to the ruined temple and figure out that the secret to defeating Mongor is not to look at him directly.
Having defeated all the other ThunderCats, Mongor seeks out Lion-O and the two engage in combat. Suddenly, Wilykit and Wilykat arrive riding their spaceboards and tell Lion-O not to look at Mongor directly. The ThunderKittens distract Mongor by blowing bubbles at him and Lion-O uses that opportunity to attack the goat demon. He turns his back to Mongor and using his Claw Shield as a mirror, fires a blast from his sword which shrinks Mongor down in size. Finally defeated, Mongor returns to his tombs and Panthro seals it with a blow torch.

Notes/Trivia[]
- This episode marks the first time (out of five) that an opponent has bound Tygra using his own Bolo Whip. The other instances being The Evil Harp of Charr-Nin, Dimension Doom, ThunderCubs, Part 4 and Chain of Loyalty.
- This is the third time (out of four) that Cheetara gets caught in a net. The first two episodes being The Doomgaze and The Spaceship Beneath the Sands. She would also go on to be ensnared in a net in the episode Snarf Takes up the Challenge
Animation Mistakes and/or Technical Glitches[]
- When Panthro is laughing at the idea that Wilykit and Wilykat could have caused the disturbances, the orange color on Tygra's nose is missing.
- In the scene where Panthro and Lion-O are returning home in the ThunderTank, the tank's treads are colored the same light grey as the tank's body instead of being blackish grey.
- Mongor's eyebrows change from being the same color as the rest of his face and being black, back and forth several times during the episode.
Inconsistencies/Continuity Errors and/or Goofs/Oddities[]
- Irony: Lion-O berates Willykit and Willykat for being curious and having moved where they shouldn't have, although they had the excuse of not understanding the stone's writings; on the other hand, Lion-O has already made the mistake of having released the three criminals that he and Mandora had a job to recover and the cell that kept them in prison already had a very clear warning not to approach because it was dangerous.
- Tygra uses a box like radio to call for help yet in the earlier episode The Time Capsule, Panthro had fitted a communicator device inside all the ThunderCats weapons, including Tygra's Bolo whip.

Panthro: That thing can even paralyze the Cats Lair temporarily. How could two kids like you have anything to do with it?
Snarf: They're only kids. How'd you expect them to learn. If you act all angry like this, they'll just be too frightened to come to you when they need help.
Wilykat: Don't look at him, Lion-O.
Lion-O: No, Wilykat. I no longer fear his power. And without fear, he is nothing.
Mongor: I am the power of everything you fear! I am in everything you see! I am all around you...above you...beneath you...I am Mongor!
