Vultaire is the former prefect of Avista and the fourth general of Mumm-Ra's army. He is based on the 1980s character known as Vultureman.
Vultaire was originally the prefect of the floating Birdmen city of Avista. When the Thundercats arrived to his city, Vultaire welcomed them and invited them to dinner while making a series of snide remarks despite their insistence for him to give them the Tech Stone before Mumm-Ra comes for it. But Vultaire arrogantly refuses before accepting Tygra's challenge for the stone with his brother's Powerstones on the line. Though agreeing to the challenge, Vultaire refuses to honor his end of the bargain, because Tygra dented his ship and has the Thundercats placed under house arrest.
However, learning they escaped his Ravenmen, Vultaire finds himself being held hostage by Pumyra to take her and the adult Thundercats to the Tech Stone's chamber while revealing the reason for the stones being scattered and the Tech Stone powering Avista's anti-gravity generator. But, by intentionally forgetting to shut down the system's security system, Vultaire turns the tables on the Thundercats with the intent to have them dumped out of Avista with the trash, but ends up being forced to spare them to have them help protect Avista from Mumm-Ra. Though initially aiding the ThunderCats in fighting off Mumm-Ra's army, Vultaire betrays his fellow Avistans and aligns himself with Mumm-Ra upon witnessing his power firsthand. After shooting down Tygra's jet to earn a place in the generals' ranks, Vultaire joins Slithe, Kaynar, and Addicus into fighting Tygra, Panthro, and Cheetara prior to the latter knocking him out before Tygra could get payback for the bird's treachery. After Mumm-Ra claimed the Tech Stone, Vultaire joined Mumm-Ra's forces into retreating from Avista.
While a cultured and refined birdman with generous hospitality, he is quite arrogant and thinks of all other races as primitive savages that are nowhere near as cultured or advanced as him and Birdkind. However, his views are somewhat reasonable as he has witnessed the wars and cruelty that the creatures below (especially the Cats) are capable of, and how they treat those with lesser power than them as outcasts or scum. He is also very knowledgeable and knows full well about the history of the world and the species' former subjugation under Mumm-Ra. However, his largest flaw is notably his arrogance, as he originally believed that his people's technology will keep them safe from Mumm-Ra and that only the surface dwellers are at risk. However, being overall dishonest and cowardly, Vultaire eagerly joined Mumm-Ra's forces upon seeing his power wipe out the Ravenmen fleet. He has also shown to have difficulty in adapting to rapid changes, as shown during the fight against Mumm-Ra's forces, he didn't know what to do when the battle did not take place as the simulators predicted it would.
He is a tall vulture Birdman wearing only a refined-looking purple kilt and a gold eye-like medallion with a red gem for its pupil around his neck and four gold bands on his arms. He is quite muscular in appearence, but is not much of a fighter and is mostly bald with crooked beak. In contrast to his 80s counterpart, Vultaire has wings.
